Low Grade Chronic CO poisoning
Sandy from Pennsylvania
i was chronically exposed to low levels of Carbon Monoxide over a six month period. I took oxygen treatment for three months irght afterward and that helped the initial symptoms of confusion, word loss, short term memory loss, trouble reading and understanding normal conversations. I couldn't read more than a few sentences without becoming overwhelmed and because I was a writer, the worst symptom was that I was no longer creative. My brain was a big blank whenever I tried to come up with any ideas. This was so unusual for me because prior to the poisoning if I sat down to write I was innundated with ideas. I couldn't write a comprehensive sentence for at least six months and I couldn't remember how to spell. Now, four years later, I still have serious memory issues. My short term memory is still bad and even my long term memory isn't great. the creativity is up to about 50 % of where it was. The rest of my brain function improved over the first year to about 80% of normal and now four years later I would say I'm close to 90% in most areas and even 100% in some areas. So recovery over a number of years does happen. I did a year of "brain therapy" exercises and still work on short term memory work but the thing that helped me the most was a low dose (5mg) of Adderal. Yes, the ADD medication. The Psychiatrist recommended it and said it is sometimes (though not officially) used in toxic brian injuries. I tried it the first few months after the injury but I didn't like the feeling of agression it caused. I started on a lower dose about four months ago (because my improvement seemed to have stalled. The lower dose prevents side-effects, but it really helps me remember, keep my thoughts straight, focus, and generally use my brain in a more effecient way. In fact I would go so far as to say I'm seeing some improvement in all areas of my brain function over the last few months. It has been more effective than anything else I've tried. My short term memory still has a lot of room for improvement, but I'm feeling more hopeful lately.

I MIGHT HAVE CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING
JOAN from NORTH ADAMS, MA
I AM EXTREMELY ITCHY. ALL OVER. IT STARTED 4 DAYS, AGO, I AM SOO VERY DIZZY, SHAKY ..HEART IS BEATING FUNNY, AND I AM WICKED DIZZY, ALL THE TIME. MIGRAINES, ALL THE TIME. MY KID IS DIZZY LIGHTHEADED, SICK TO HER STOMACH. I AM AT WORK NOW AND I STILL HAVE THE THROBBING MIGRAINE, IHAVE WRITTEN TO MY LANDLORD, SO AFRAID TO ASK HER TO HAVE THIS CHECKED. BUT A YR AGO AN INSPECTOR TOLD HER THAT HER HOUSE SHOULD HAVE NEVER PASSED INSPECTION DUE TO A LEAK. MY KID APPROACHED ME THINKING SHE HAD A PANIC ATTACK. I TALKED HER DOWN, BUT THEN I GOT THE SYMPTOMS SHE GOT, AND THOUGHT I WAS JUST FEELING EMPATHY. NOW I AM JUST SCARED ITS SOMETHING WORSE. WILL THEY MAKE US LEAVE OUR HOME, IF WE GO TO THE ER? THIS IS MAKING ME FEEL VERY WEIRD AND SICK.

My experience
Stephanie from New Jersey
We have had co2 in the house for days because of our furnace supposedly it is fixed but I still feel these symptoms: I feel dizzy, headache, hazzy, chest hurts, neck hurts, anxiety is high I think because Im pretty sure we still have the gas in the house, very sleepy, feel almost like I\\\'m on ambien or something-very zombie like, I have experienced extreme nasiua off and on, the other day it was so bad I would sit down because I was nasiuas and literally I instantly passed out, I have also been seeing things \\\"move\\\" out of the corner of my eyes. It\\\'s almost comparable to dehydration or the way you feel run down when you have a bad cold...I don\\\'t like this, and supposedly less than 24hours ago we were told we were safe but I still don\\\'t feel right, please be carefull all if you feel this way and please test your co2 detector? That\\\'s the only reason we found out that\\\'s what was wrong! A few hours after we reset/tested the detector it was going crazy.

I too experience mild CO poisoning about a week ago after being discharged from the hospital my doctor told me I was going to be fine to go on with my normal life, 2 days after being discharged I started feeling dizzy again and headaches, I didn't feel the same I also suffered my anxiety and depression and now it seems like it's got worse, I pray everyday that this well pass soon, I have a 7 yr old and a 2 yr old that need me, if there's somebody else that feels this way please share with me iI hope I'm not alone in this..

spaciness, forgetfulness, depression, adrenal fatigue
Cynthia from Fremont, CA
Discovered the space heater emitting carbon monoxide two weeks ago, and now many mysterious former symptoms make sense. I don't know how long I was poisoning myself and my dog. The dog does sleep a lot but otherwise seems okay, and energetic. I thought after it was discovered and shut down I would feel better. But I actually feel a bit worse, and my naturopath, who herself was also poisoned years ago, says it is like a drug withdrawal, and you may actually feel worse for 3-6 months, after which you have made new blood with correct oxygen ratios– it takes time. Been feeling like a zombie, depressed, and lots of forgetfulness, though some analytic functions seem still strong. Recovered from adrenal fatigue issues over last three years, and is now coming back, dropping off asleep in late afternoon, hard to discipline to get work done. My naturopath is doing great, high energy, and happy, so I am encouraged I can make full recovery. P.S. Taking lots of supplements which help (Vit D-3, CoEnzyme Q10, Stress Vitamins, algae, antioxidants, Omega 3, etc.)
